Under 18 years old and received a ticket?

We strongly recommend that you hire an experienced Washington state traffic attorney to help keep your record clean.

Instruction Permits

Did you know that you must have a clean driving record for six months prior to applying for an intermediate license?   RCW 45.20.075 states you must not have received a traffic infraction for six months prior to applying for an intermediate license.

So, if you receive a ticket while on an instruction permit, it is extremely important that you strongly consider challenging and fighting your speeding or traffic ticket in order to keep your record clean.

Otherwise, you will have to wait longer for your intermediate license.

Intermediate License

If you are currently on an intermediate license, it is also especially important to keep Washington state speeding and traffic tickets off of your permanent driving record.

All drivers with an intermediate license should know that there are driving restrictions on passengers and night-time driving.  Fortunately, these restrictions become less strict over time if the driver proves his or her ability.

Under RCW 46.20.075 (7), if a young driver has not been in any accidents or found to have committed a traffic infraction within the first year of having an intermediate license, then the driver will no longer have to continue driving with these restrictions!

If a young driver wants to take advantage of this opportunity, they need to fight even their first ticket.

Two tickets and your suspended for six months.

If you are found to have committed two infractions while on an intermediate license, your license will be suspended for a period of six months or until you reach 18 years old, whichever occurs first. (RCW 46.20.267(2).)

Three traffic tickets and you're done.

And, under RCW 46.20.267 (3), if you are found to have committed three speeding or traffic infractions while on an intermediate license, your license will be suspended until you are 18 years old.
